Meet Our Students
“Now that I am going into my junior year as a college student next semester, I’ve had the opportunity to better assess my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve experienced many obstacles which put these attributes on the front line. I remain very passionate about the positive things I am grateful to have in my life. This passion I have to become an RN serves as the main driving force pushing me to accomplish my goals to the best of my abilities. The most fulfilling moment of my sophomore year at Frostburg State University had to have been when I received my acceptance packet into the Nursing School at Allegany College of Maryland. I was overjoyed when I received the news of my acceptance since this school year has been very rigorous. With passion as my driving force, I have taken another step in the right path to attaining my career.”
Johnae, a self-described optimist and hardworking student, plans to study cosmetology and prepare to open her own full service family salon. Waking up before 5 am to travel from West Baltimore to Dundalk has not been easy for her, especially on days she has had after school commitments. To persevere, she told herself "You’ve got to pay the cost to be a boss." Her five-year old hair styling business, #SlayedByNaee, is Johnae’s biggest achievement and she has loyal customers. In addition to being an entrepreneur, she was co-captain of the school step team, active in the vocal magnet, and worked at her high school childcare program. According to one of her teachers, Johnae gained strong leadership skills in JROTC and possesses “a strong instinct for protecting and most of all assisting students with special needs.” Another teacher proclaims, “Johnae is one of the most consistent and attentive students I have ever had the pleasure to teach. She takes responsibility for her education and distinguishes herself from other students by always putting forth her best efforts.” We believe she is, indeed, on her way to becoming her own boss and are proud to invest in her career training!
"I have acquired many qualities over the years through my upbringing in the church, family and education that reflect the characteristics needed to be a future leader in our society, like the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and our 44th President Barack Obama. I have humility and understand that sometimes the needs of others may need to come before my own. I have empathy to get things accomplished for other people and the vision to look at things in a way others may not. I am an optimistic, genuine, trustworthy, and reliable person who has the ability to motivate and inspire people. While I have much to learn, I am mature and know how important it is to stay positive despite any obstacle I may encounter. I know to stay true to my beliefs and values and be confident in who I am and my ability to seek a promising future in helping others."
